Who is Ted Schredd?
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta Ted's first
encounter with having a fun life came when he
went to Lake Louise, Alberta to be a ski bum
in 1985. He thought he would just learn to ski
but he learned that not only was it possible
to have incredible amounts of fun, but that
quality fun can happen everyday. It instilled
the burning question within Ted, “How
can I get even more fun into my life?”
In 1985 he moved to Vancouver, BC. Schredd has
worked as a Ski Videographer, Frisbee instructor
and as a Stand-Up Comedian. One afternoon a
friend came over to tell Ted
of his plans to sell all of his furniture and
move to Alaska. Inspired by his friend’s
plans, Ted decided to go out and have an adventure
himself.
Two months later Schredd embarked on a 13,000km
cycling journey from Vancouver, BC to Key West,
FL and back. During his cycling travels he kept
a journal of his days. That journal turned out
to be Ted’s first book The Cycling Adventures
of Coconut Head and was a Canadian best seller.
Upon his return home, bike boy convinced Brad
Phillips, the program director of Z95.3 FM to
hire him as the new cycling traffic reporter
for the radio station. Ted rode over 20,000
km reporting traffic from the streets of Vancouver
as the Worlds First Cycling Traffic Reporter.
Always needing more adventure, Ted planned a
six month, four country bike tour of England,
Thailand, New Zealand and Australia. He left
Vancouver once again to discover more of the
world and what fun opportunities it held for
him. When he returned home he set out to get
a job in Television.
With the launch of a new Vancouver Television
station the challenge was in front of him. Ted
beat out numerous others for the position of
remote host on the breakfast show. He enjoyed
his visit there but the long hours and “corporate
thinking” was killing him. Besides, Ted
is not real comfortable with having a job anyway.
Ted saw another opportunity and jumped. He managed
to win a contract as a travel photographer for
Resort Reservations (an Intrawest company) taking
pictures of resorts in the United States, Mexico
and the Caribbean. The photography was quite
lucrative and built up the bank just enough
to write a book.
So Ted moved to within twenty minutes of a ski
hill, bought a ski pass and proceeded to dig
into the writing of this book. He skied he wrote.
Schredd took all of his notes and hands on research
and crammed into his new book, Gramma Knows
The F Word.
Schredd’s future plans include extensive
travelling and more research into dimensions
of fun. Now that the book is out, Ted wants
to get feedback from all corners of the world
so that he can continue to improve his expertise
and share with the rest of the world.
Ted has been interviewed for print pieces in
Newspapers all around Canada and the US. Mostly
for his 13,000 km journey around North America
by bicycle and the promotion of his last book,
“The Cycling Adventures of Coconut Head”.
